There is a lot of information and theories about
proper bike fitting methodologies. One of the most difficult decisions for a cyclist
to make is deciding which method is best and consequently who should fit their bike.
At Dogma Athletica we have researched and worked with many leading authorities in bike
fitting. We analyzed the different methods and have come up with what we feel is the
best solution.
Initially we look at you on your current set upon our Compu Trainer system. We
look at power and efficiency vs. heart rate. We use SpinScan to run a pedaling
analysis. Then we get to work.
First, we take a look at your anatomy; analyzing flexibility, injury history, possible let
length discrepancies, and amount of curve in the femur. We then measure forefoot vaus and valgus
to determine whether wedging is necessary or if you are a candidate for a cycling orthotic. We
then accurately position cleats beneath the ball of the foot by determining the metatarsal heads
of each foot.
Next, we move to the Tiemeyer position cycle to look at positioning. The best way to optimize
your cycling position is to quantify performance under controlled conditions of heart rate, cadence
and power output while riding various geometries on our Tiemeyer position cycle. We will scientifically
determine your own unique Power/Position/Speed profile. We will use our transfer square to accurately
reproduce the exact position on your bike. Or we can use this information to help you
determine the correct new bike you may be considering purchasing.
Once the new position has been recreated on your bike, we will run a few tests on our
Compu Trainer system. We will use the SpinScan Pedal Stroke Analyzer to help you increase
your power and efficiency. It will give us the necessary feedback to help us minimize the
"dead" spots we saw at the beginning of the fitting.
